Celebrating Today

Hat Day is the third Friday in January. Can you imagine going to work this morning and everyone is wearing a hat. If only people knew that today was the day for celebrating their hats. It certainly would bring the child out in them. If you don’t have a hat, make a newspaper hat. This site has step-by-step directions. Decorate it with a floppy silk flower or attach funny pins and buttons.
National Nothing Day (today) is a day to give yourself permission to be a couch potato. Of course, many of us need to work and make a living, so Fridays when ever they come are work days. With our busy schedules of rushing to fit everything in today, perhaps we could take some time to just zone out or meditate. We deserve it.
Psychiatric Assistants Day (today) - if you know one, he/she probably doesn’t even know it’s their day. Do something nice for them, attaching a card that tells them it is their day.
Hot and Spicy Food International Day - Cook something deliciously spicy from this recipe list.
Ethel Merman was born on this day in 1909, was a theater actress and singer. She was known for her powerful singing voice and was often called “The Grand Dame of Broadway Stage.” Her signature song was “There’s No Business Like Show Business” which came from the musical, “Annie Get Your Gun.” She was probably most well known for her performance in “Gypsy.”
Dizzy Dean was born on this day in 1910. He was a baseball pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, St. Louis Browns and the Chicago Cubs over his career. He was considered a folk hero during the depression days. After his pitching career ended early with an injury, he became a colorful sports announcer. He played the not to bright country boy as an entertainment gag - it seemed to work for him.
Ronnie Milsap was born on this day in 1943. Born in North Carolina, he is a country-western singer with one of his most popular songs, “Any Day Now.” He has had forty #1 hits. He suffered from a congenital defect, from birth, that renders him nearly blind. He had a difficult early life with abandonment by his parents and ridicule because of his sight defect. He was hit by a schoolmaster which took the remainder of his sight from him.

Hat day? That reminds me of elementary school we had a crazy hat day. My mom but a whole bunch of buttons all over a hat for me and I wore that. Oh the memories. haha
There is a website that lists every day as a different theme day (or whatever) and the 18th (my birthday) I remember being Winnie The Pooh Day. haha now the web site was probably totally made up but I love Disney so I was fine with that. =)
