Airports - How to Get Through the Line Fast

Even a neat packer can be detained at the security line with their carry on bag if it’s not packed so that items can be seen clearly when x-rayed. Any large electronics should be packed in your “large” checked luggage. Pack only smaller electronics such as iPods. Put your clear 1 quart clear ziplock plastic bag at home, as discussed yesterday, with toiletries no larger than 3 ounces each (travel size). To organize your bag start with heavy items at the bottom. Then, a layer of clothing, followed by electronics, another layer of clothing. On top should be any items you might be using during your flight as not previously mentioned. Try to lay the layers between and atop the clothing individually rather than jumbled together.
The best advice about carry on bags is, “If in doubt, leave it out.” The less you take on board the plane with you, the faster you will get through the line.
Here are some items that may cause the metal detector alarm to go off.
* keys
* body piercing jewelry
* phones
* coins
* PDAs
* belt buckles
* under-wire bras
* heavy jewelry
* watches
Don’t forget you will have to remove your shoes for x-raying, so it’s best to wear something easy to take off and put back on.

Good advice, Karen
