The Latest Air Flight Rules

My husband is going to Las Vegas at the end of February with a buddy of his to see Nascar. He had back surgery at the end of last October and they put a plate and some screws into him. So, I’ve been thinking about what we might need to do ahead of time to save them treating him like he’s a terrorist when he goes through security and the beeper goes off. My thoughts have gone even further wondering about other things to consider when taking a flight. You hear about the rules changing all the time.

Airplane Carry-ons

Rule 311 from the TSA (Transportation Safety Authority) states that each person can carry onto the airplane only one zip-top clear plastic bag (quart size). Toiletries allowed in those zip-locks must be the travel size only (3 oz or less). The bag, of course, will still have to go through the conveyer system for x-ray purposes. No water bottles from home. You can, however, take water onto the plane, but only that which has been purchased after you’ve gone through security. Your only other option is to take an empty plastic bottle (that is allowed) and fill it up at the drinking fountain after you’ve been cleared by security.

You still have to take off your shoes to be ex-rayed, so consider wearing something easy to take off and put back on. Here are some of the other carry-on items allowed:

* If you are taking a baby on the plane, you are allowed baby formula.
* Prescription medication is allowed, but only if it matches your I.D. name.
* Essential medications such as insulin are allowed

Food and Gifts

Here is a list of items that you must put in your check-in bag if you are taking a flight. Your other option would be to ship them ahead of time and avoid any problems at the airport check-in.

* cologne & perfume
* cranberry sauce
* gravy
* jams & jellies
* syrup
* oil and vinegars
* salsa or sauces
* snow globes
* soups
* wine/liquor

You can take pies and cakes on board the plane, but they will be subject to additional screening. One wonders if you’d really want to eat them after the airport security got done with them. If you bring wrapped gifts, they will most likely get unwrapped.
