Is it time to move on? A new place with the new year? Perhaps the gypsy in you yearns for a new place and new sights. Maybe you’re young and just out of college, wondering where you should start your career. Follow these steps to get a better idea about where you’d like to plant some new roots.

(1) Small Town or Large City. Of course, that would be the first choice. Do you enjoy the hustle and bustle of city life with all it’s amenities such as great restaurants, theater, concerts and cultural differences. And what about the job opportunities? But, what about the traffic and high rent or mortgage? Or do you like a more slow paced lifestyle where you can walk down the sidewalk in town and say hello to everyone you meet? Would you like a little land to grow a big garden and have some animals, horses maybe? Maybe you like things a little in between the two. What ever your choice is, you probably don’t have to think long about this choice.

(2) Weather. Consider what kind of climate is most comfortable to you. Did you hate having to shovel the snow every winter morning or did you love being only minutes away from winter sports like skiing and snowboarding? Did you hate the hot summers of Southern California, Arizona or Florida, or does your body yearn the summer bake that only those places can offer.

(3) Life Style. We’ve talked about the advantages of the entertainment and cultural diversity you would get in a big city. But, perhaps living near a city that you can easily travel to for these things is the answer for you. Once you’ve narrowed your choices down to two or three locations, it’s best to do some investigation. Check out the newspapers in those locations to see what the normal feel of the place is and what kind’s of activities are normally going on. Visit the location. Nothing can tell you a town is for you besides getting a first hand feel for it. Check out this article on 50 Best Places to live.

I chose a small town for my education because I would be able to study better here. Less distractions! If I was in a bigger city, I would be out the whole time and wouldn’t study as much as I am right now ;)
