How to Make Christmas Stockings
I think there may be quite a few families that don’t use the traditional Christmas Stockings. We always did in our house growing up as it was the one thing we were allowed to open before my parents got up on Christmas Morning. We were happy and my parents were happy to be able to sleep in a tiny bit. We didn’t have a lot of money growing up so you could count on there being a pair of socks (special ones), some fruit and nuts and then a few fun things in them. It was okay, unlike today, it was even fun to get a new pair of fancy socks and if we were hungry, the fruit and nuts were handy.
If you’d like to start, revive or just redo your Christmas Stocking tradition, I’ve found several places with patterns. It would be cool to really individualize each stocking to the person.
Family Fun.com has some really cute stocking ideas. There is an elf boot stocking, ballet slippers, Cowboy boot stocking, barefoot stocking, dog paw stocking, Ice skate stocking and a classic stocking.
Sewing Web.com has a cute strip quilt stocking, but you could use the stocking shape to make one from just one fabric.
Martha Stewart.com has “bird” stockings. But hold on, there really just a nice plain stocking with a cuff that any detail could be added to. She has a feathered bird from the craft store on the front.
Craft and Fabric Links has a really cute stocking with green trees - nice.
Whites Sewing.com has a nice crazy quilted stocking with ribbon and stitching. It could be very elegant if made with velvet and/or satin fabrics.
EZ Quilting has another elegant quilted stocking pattern.
