White Elephant Gift Exchange

Published by kyellis under Holiday, How To, Living Edit This

If this is the year you have decided to start a gift exchange, with extended family, by picking names out of a hat, there’s plenty of ideas to explore in this area. Of course the name picking idea can also be used for office Christmas parties. Everyone is watching their pennies this year and that includes business owners.

White Elephant #1

Everyone brings a new or used gift that has been around the house forever and they just need to get rid of it. The gifts are wrapped and brought to the party or get-together. Then numbers are put into a hat and every person picks one. The person with the #1 get’s to choose first (in this White Elephant it’s best to have the last number). The person with #2 gets to choose next. However, if he likes number one’s gift better he can make and exchange. This goes on with each successive number getting to pick among the opened gifts or keep their own. It’s a no cost gift exchange and you’d be surprised how fun and funny this can be.

White Elephant #2

With White Elephant #2 everyone purchases a gift (with a dollar amount limit) and brings in wrapped to the party. The number picking goes the same. However, when your number comes up, instead of picking a new gift first you can decide to take someone else’s gift you’ve been eyeing. Then, they get to pick a wrapped gift for a second time. The idea is for people to find a gift that would be useful for anyone or choose something funny or ridiculous.
