American Idol’s Melinda Doolittle on the Road to Fame
Third place winner, Melinda Doolittle, of American Idol’s sixth season finally snags a record deal with Hi Fi Recordings (MPCA). The “heart-of-gold” singer has waited a year to get the attention of a record label. An official date for her first CD is yet to be named. Melinda Doolittle of American Idol, has a big draw in appealing to many different age and ethnic groups. Before her run on American Idol, she sang as a backup singer to various celebrities as Aaron Neville, BeBe, Alabama, Michael McDonald and many others. Although taking third place, Simon Cowell (American Idol judge) spoke out saying that Melinda should have been chosen the winner.
It had been suggested she would have a strong singing career after her American Idol appearance and that she would sour to the heights of Tina Turner and Gladys Knight. She took the stage for her first solo performance at the Boiler Room in Franklin Tennessee, November 9th of last year. She sang America’s favorites from her Idol days including an all time favorite rendition of “Amazing Grace.” She followed with a performance at the Whitehouse on November 13th. She’s participated in three nation wide tours including the first being the American Idol tour.
May 10th Melinda Doolittle performed in Reno, Nevada at a benefit concert and sang six of her favorites including “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart” and “I’ve Got Rhythm.” Many other charitable events have followed.
The ambitious Melinda Doolittle plans two more albums before the year is out. The second will be comprised of completely original material and the third will be a Christmas album.
